Jesus Prophecy Tracker — how to read the map
Follow Jesus from the annunciation to exaltation, then open the Old Testament passages that the New Testament connects with each phase. Read the event, the original passage, and the kind of connection together.
Tradition note
Follow the unity of the incarnate Word's life and Israel's Scriptures, as read in the Church's worship and Christological tradition. The labels distinguish the New Testament's citations from broader applications and typology; original historical contexts remain visible.
Avoid overclaiming
An explicit Gospel fulfillment can reread an earlier event (Hosea 11:1), lament (Jeremiah 31:15), or ritual (Exodus 12:46). It does not automatically mean the Old Testament author originally described a standalone future prediction. Textual variants, composite citations, and literary ordering must remain visible.
Key points
- A curated Christian reading of Jesus' life through 70 Old Testament studies. Fulfillment citations, New Testament applications, and typological echoes are shown separately. The study count is not a count of independent predictions. Original settings, textual comparisons, and interpretive limits accompany the connections.
- An ordered study of narrative phases, not a calendar to scale or a complete Gospel harmonization. Infancy follows Matthew's sequence, preparation and the final Jerusalem visit chiefly follow the synoptics, and repeated ministry activities are thematic clusters. Some links come from later apostolic teaching or an earlier saying about a later event; each explanation identifies that use. Exact birth and passion dates, Gospel ordering differences, and Daniel timetable calculations are not resolved here. The kingdom-teaching moment is a thematic cluster. Verse and chapter numbering can differ when comparing Hebrew, Septuagint, WEB, and NABRE editions; the tracker keeps WEB reference numbering and notes specific variants. Individual citations carry their own connection kinds even when a passage is used in different ways.
- Fulfillment citation: The New Testament identifies a passage as fulfilled or names it as the prophetic text explaining the event. This label describes the New Testament's use; the Old Testament may be promise, lament, ritual, or a recalled event.
- New Testament application: Jesus or a New Testament writer quotes, applies, or alludes to a text in explaining his identity, teaching, and work without that event's explicit fulfillment citation. The Psalm 91 study separately identifies the tempter's rejected use.
- Typology & echoes: A person, event, or pattern is read in relation to Jesus. Explicit comparisons and more tentative echoes are distinguished in the explanation; a parallel is not automatically an original prediction.
Common questions
- What kind of connection does the New Testament actually make?
- What did the Old Testament passage say to its first audience?
- Is the timeline placement the event described, or the moment a later writer discusses it?
Scripture
- Luke 24:25–27 — The risen Jesus interprets the Scriptures in relation to his suffering and glory.
- Luke 24:44–49 — Luke names the Law, Prophets, and Psalms in Jesus' explanation of his mission.
