The precious foundation stone in Zion

Jesus Prophecy Tracker · Source review: 2026-10-07

Apostolic writers apply Isaiah's sure foundation to Jesus and the community built around him.

Historical context

Isaiah challenges Jerusalem's rulers and their false security, contrasting a refuge of lies with the LORD's foundation in Zion and the standards of justice and righteousness.

Tradition note

Follow the unity of the incarnate Word's life and Israel's Scriptures, as read in the Church's worship and Christological tradition. The labels distinguish the New Testament's citations from broader applications and typology; original historical contexts remain visible.

Avoid overclaiming

First Peter combines Isaiah 28, Psalm 118, and Isaiah 8 as distinguishable stone texts. Romans 9 likewise combines Isaiah's foundation and stumbling language. These are later apostolic applications to Christ, not quotations spoken during an Easter appearance; Hebrew and Greek forms differ in the promise about the believer.
