Gospel Book
The Book of the Gospels normally rests on the Holy Table and is carried and read during worship. Its cover is often richly adorned.

- Torah, Gospel, and proclamation (Historical connection): The synagogue gathers around Torah reading; Luke records Jesus reading and teaching in a synagogue. In church, the Gospel Book is carried and proclaimed. Justin’s second-century account describes Christian readings followed by exhortation and common prayer.
