Lambeth Quadrilateral
About this date: The framework had been formulated in Chicago in 1886 before its adoption at Lambeth in 1888. It proposed a basis for dialogue rather than announcing universal reunion.
The Lambeth Conference adopted a four-part framework for pursuing Christian unity: Scripture, the ancient creeds, Baptism and the Lord's Supper, and the historic episcopate adapted to local settings.
