Credence and lavabo

Church Architecture

The credence is a preparation table. The Epistle-side equipment includes wine and water cruets, basin, towel, small bell and Communion plate. Lavabo means I will wash: the priest washes his fingers at this side after offering the chalice, after incense when used. Bells signal prescribed moments.
