The messenger prepares the way
The Gospels identify John as the messenger who prepares the way before Jesus.
Historical context
Malachi announces the LORD's coming to the temple, a covenant messenger, and purification of priestly worship.
Perspective note
Comparative historical/source study. The original author's or church's reception is retained; inclusion does not make every claim Oriental Orthodox teaching.
Tradition note
Oriental Orthodox study: the eternal Word and life-giving Spirit are confessed within Nicene faith. These passage connections distinguish original context, New Testament use and later Christian interpretation. Historical witnesses retain their own church reception; a proposed interpretation is not automatically a universal Oriental teaching.
Avoid overclaiming
Mark's opening citation combines Malachi with Isaiah and may echo Exodus 23:20. The map labels the named prophetic use without claiming that every image of the larger oracle happens at Jesus' baptism.
