Child praise and humanity crowned with glory

Jesus Prophecy Tracker · Source review: 2026-10-07

Jesus appeals to the psalm's praise from children; Hebrews and Paul apply its account of human rule to Jesus' suffering, glory, and victory.

Historical context

The psalm praises God's majesty in creation and marvels that fragile human beings receive honor and responsibility over God's works. Its movement includes praise from the young and the human vocation within creation.

Tradition note

Read the unity of Scripture in Christ while attending to the Old Testament's literal setting and the New Testament's use of it. Fulfillment can include a renewed historical pattern, not only an isolated prediction; this collection is a study guide rather than an exhaustive doctrinal catalogue.

Avoid overclaiming

The original human vocation is broader than a prediction about one individual. The New Testament gives the psalm several related Christological applications, kept together as one study. Hebrews expressly says that universal subjection is not yet visible. The child-praise wording follows the Greek form. Psalm 8:5 uses Hebrew Elohim, rendered God or divine beings in many editions; Hebrews follows the Greek wording angels. Verse numbering varies across editions.
