James, the Brother of the Lord
James is named as the Lord's brother, receives a resurrection appearance, becomes a leading figure in Jerusalem, offers a judgment at the council, and is called a pillar by Paul.
Tradition note
Orthodox tradition commonly identifies James as a son of Joseph from an earlier marriage. This is a later identification, not a detail supplied by Mark 6:3 or Galatians 1:19.
