Old rites vindicated
About this date: Lifting condemnations of the rites did not automatically reunite the Russian Orthodox Church and the diverse Old Believer communities.
The Russian Orthodox Church's Local Council lifted the earlier condemnations of the old Russian rites. The decision removed an important obstacle in relations with Old Believers.
