The glory once seen by the Chebar and in judgment returns to fill the visionary sanctuary.

Reception

Context study · no identified appearance of Christ

Tradition note

Read Scripture's unity in Christ alongside the distinction between literal setting, spiritual meaning, and later reception. Justin's identifications and Augustine's questions both belong to Christian history; this map does not assign a definitive doctrinal status to every candidate.

Avoid overclaiming

This is a restoration vision, linked by Ezekiel to his earlier visions, not a new historical report of the temple dedication. Christian readings differ over how its sanctuary relates to future fulfillment. Revelation's dwelling-and-glory themes do not prove that the eastward glory here is personally identified as Christ.

The returning glory enters the temple from the east.

Yahweh’s glory came into the house by the way of the gate which faces toward the east.

Passage context and translation

Ezekiel sees the glory of Israel's God coming from the east, with a voice like many waters and an earth illuminated by glory. He identifies it with his earlier visions, falls on his face, and is brought by the Spirit into the court as glory fills the house. The voice announces God's dwelling and calls Israel to forsake defilement.
