Consulting the dead: the prohibition texts
About this date: Narrative setting and composition date are distinct; no new date claim.
Deuteronomy forbids divination and necromancy; Isaiah challenges consulting the dead on behalf of the living; 1 Samuel narrates Saul seeking Samuel through the woman at Endor after the LORD did not answer him. These texts supply the objection’s premise, not merely a response to it.
