Scripture

Primary sources

John 18:1 opens the scene:

John places Jesus and his disciples in a garden across the Kidron after the farewell discourse; this supports the narrative sequence without fixing a surveyed location or resolving the Passover dating dispute.

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.
